The ’62 day’ waiting time target for cancer patients in England has been missed again, marking 3 years since the target was last met. NHS England aims for 85% of patients to start their cancer treatment within 62 days following an urgent GP referral for suspected cancer. The latest NHS figures report that in the last 3 months of 2016 only 82.2% of patients were treated within that time, similar to the previous 3 months and marking a distinct lack of progress. This failure means that more than 70,000 people in the last 3 years have waited longer than the 62 day target to start treatment.
